Activities & Services The direct services for the children are represented in
The society is dedicated to the children's education and that they should join governmental schools and thorough follow up is made to ensure their getting the best of results
School drop out children are oriented to literacy classes. With the cooperation of the National Department for Literacy& Adult Education; programs are prepared to help them in this respect Besides, the society led an innovative experimental new Literacy program called “The Concentrated Language Encounter Technology (CLE)” which proved a great success The Society provides also a "Literacy Program" for school drop-out children . This is implemented with the cooperation of the "National Department for Literacy and Adult Education"; also, with the World Rotary through applying "The Concentrated Language Encounter Technique (CLE) ". The Society is the first to apply it in Egypt and many have been trained on it
The children are medically examined at regular times. Health care and proper supervision over their nutrition menus are maintained. Through group and private sessions psychological care is provided for children who are subjects to psychological disturbances. Analysis is made and plans are put to restore their harmony The Society provides special care for the “Young Street Mothers” who are victims of street sexual abuse. The Society works hard to reintegrate them with the community while raising their awareness of protection and preventive means besides reproductive health Inside the Society, there is Dental and Dermal Clinics and it has contracts with public and private hospitals; providing children at the same time with health cards for easy dealings with different treatment places.
The society provides a stable, warm, family-like care home for the children without over protecting them as they have to be prepared for independence later on. They are taught good values and proper behavior, built on cooperation and self-reliance
Reunification with the family is the main goal of the society. The children are thoroughly rehabilitated psychologically and are well prepared vocationally for such an aim
Through careful research works, done by qualified social workers and psychologists and through both group and private discussions trust is gradually built up and the gap between the child and his family is narrowed. He is ready to accept the idea of being reunited to his family and start anew in the natural surrounding of which he was deprived
Training programs on a group of handicrafts are provided through helping the children to join vocational programs at workshops and factories in the surrounding areas. This is projected for the aim of uniting the child with the surrounding community and helping him acquire a group of skills that will prepare him for future career
Such handicrafts are: carpet weaving and hand-made silk decorative carpets, Khan El-Khalily crafts of mother of pearl works, decorative candle-making …etc. The trainees should not be under the age of 14
A literacy School connected to the Mokattam center for temporary residence has been established in 1995. It was noticed that there were big numbers of school drop out children as a result of the 1992 earthquake. This event demanded the government to re- dwell the injured families in the Mokattam area, which caused a disturbance in the ways of life they were accustomed to and disruption from their long used life-aspects. They became unable to satisfy their children needs and this led them to fly away to the street and spend most of their times there, exposed to different hazards
The services provided in the school, contain besides the scholastic subjects, a training on handy-crafts for small wages. The children are provided with recreational services and trips and are given two meals. This helps much in lessening the families’ responsibilities towards them
The society participates in the project by providing the place and the teachers’ salaries. The books and training items of the workshops are provided by the association of Literacy and Adult Teaching
A women class was added in 1996 to help eliminate illiteracy among women and girls there. A workshop for cutting and sewing was established
Recreational activities are varied for maintaining vitality and activity renewal. The children are provided with diverted programs containing monthly trips, fun parties, summer camping
The vital role culture plays in creating a civilized community is not absent and the society offers great encouragement to the children who have artistic talents to participate in conquests: cultural and artistic. A magazine is monthly issued edited by the children, expressing their ideas and showing a talented effort in data gathering and presentation
The religious side is paid a great attention as generally that group of children is void of the knowledge of religious doctrines and proper manners. Therefore, besides the school lessons or literacy classes, they are being accustomed to timely prayers and are taught to recite the Quor’an and follow the good lessons deducted from the prophet’s sayings. This is being taught by a specialized teacher i.e. a “Shiekh” who is appointed by the society for that aim
The society also cares for the bodily fitness of the children and does not spare efforts to enhance their health through varied sport games like football and Tykondu. The society , during the past years, accomplished several advanced ppositions and the children were given cups and medals of achievement.
The main goal of the society as concerning this program is to unite the child to his family. Through research work the reasons for the child being on the street are deducted. The most important of which is the family’s low standard of living. It is found that through helping the family economically, there might be a good chance for the child to live with his family and enjoy the normal life he is deprived of. A program is proposed to give lawns to the chosen families to start small projects which generate stable incomes, on condition that the child should be let to live normally with his family.
The program has been put to effect and till now it is going on successfully. This is due to some facts such as: n It suits the poor families that need be given a starting push to increase their living means. n It helps the child be an effective member in the family, by giving him the chance to partake in the project. n It helps to develop family relations, and the relation between the family, the child and the surrounding community n It is a project that can be easily controlled, followed up, and evaluated.
From another point of view, and in continuation of the society’s policy of caring for the children who have been brought up in the society’s shelters and who are about to finish their university education, it is found that giving them an opportunity to run small projects of their own, will help them depend upon themselves and gain self esteem and trust The society, also, will ensure an honorable life for those youths. Their projects will be different as for quality, quantity and the required funds Hope Village is keen to continue this project as it will much help realize a higher degree of stability for street children Through the society’s experience in this field, it is found that the society should enhance its programs in a way so as to be able to serve a greater number of the children in difficult circumstances
In its early start, the society’s aim was limited to the curative side of the children’s problems. Now it has developed progressive and ambitious programs which put into consideration the protective and developing sides. Actually these helped to solve, to a good effect, some of the street children's problems
